Hero of the Month - September 2019
Our first Hero of the Month is former Minneapolis Captain and Bloomington Firefighter Brad Larson. Jake worked with Brad on Minneapolis rigs and Brad mentored Jake early on in his career.
Brad passed away suddenly on September 5, 2018. He was survived by his loving wife, Candyce and two sons Jeff and Greg. Around that time last year, Firefighters for Healing was on the evening news showing footage from Camp RED and the children who had survived burn trauma laughing and playing. The family was so moved by the segment that they asked guests to direct memorials to Firefighters for Healing in Brad’s honor. It was such a beautiful tribute!
A few months later, Jeff began to volunteer with Firefighters for Healing. In the Spring, he stepped up to co-lead the 2019 Camp RED week and was in awe of the campers resiliency and grit. He learned so much this year and looks forward to continuing to honor his father’s legacy in this way.
We honor Brad Larson today for his service, dedication to the profession and his generous heart for community. If you would like to nominate a firefighter or burn survivor for the Hero of the Month spotlight, please visit firefightersforhealing.org/hero
