Two year old Alaina is a typical toddler who is curious and on-the-go. Her eyes light up when she is excited and she gives the warmest hugs. She loves to twirl, play and dance. She loves when you sing, read a book to her and cuddle. Alaina is also a burn survivor with a great support network that includes mom, grandma and her Hennepin Healthcare medical teams. She will have many procedures and surgeries ahead of her but we are confident that her positive attitude will help her every step of the way.
Alaina joined our burn community in April 2021 when she was rescued from a housefire. She spent 8 weeks in ICU and remained in the hospital for 5 months. Since September, her days are filled with Occupational and Physical Therapy but she loves every single person in her out patient clinic. Her therapy can be difficult, frustrating and exhausting but mom is seeing great improvements in her mobility and speech. Improvements she says are the direct result of the support she has received from Firefighters For Healing. Being bedside with her daughter has made a world of difference. While Alaina will forever have her burn scars and grafted skin ripples and ridges - her brilliant smile and amazing attitude will serve her well.

In October, we received a call from a firefighter family wanting to support a burn survivor family before Christmas. The adult children had created a tradition years ago to forego gift giving and instead pool money with their parents to provide gifts to a local family in need. This year they chose to contact Firefighters For Healing and we put our elves in motion to create a wish list.
Firefighters For Healing is so thankful to our community of creative and generous donors. At the gift drop, Alaina was invited to open 2 gifts so the rest could remain under the tree until Christmas. Her single mom views this as a Christmas miracle and was so overwhelmed that complete strangers would help her in this way. Her message to every single Firefighters For Healing volunteer, sponsor and donor:
