Hero of the Month - July

The Alerus Hero of the Month is
Aaron Busch, Chanhassen Firefighter
Nominated by his peers

Aaron was recently named the Chanhassen Firefighter of the Year! He grew up with family members who were first responders and that inspired him to follow in their footsteps after college. In his 6 years as a firefighter, he has gained a lot of experience and continues to make his family proud.

The nominations for firefighter of the year come from fellow firefighters in the department. Aaron was unanimously selected for the award out of a group of nominations. Everyone could agree that what sets him apart is his great attitude, willingness to learn and eagerness to jump in. Aaron is a great example of what the department is looking for to serve the community. It was fun for Fire Chief Don Johnson to present the award at the annual banquet because Aaron had no idea it was coming.

Aaron is certified as a fire apparatus operator who drives the fire engine and ensures that firefighters get to their call safely. He is currently working toward certifications on the fire truck and as a medical technician. None of us can complain about fatigue! If Aaron is on an overnight shift and has to respond to several calls, he still needs to be at his day job, as maintenance crew for Eden Prairie Schools, by 6am.

In Aaron’s spare time, he loves spending time with his wife, gardening, traveling and or traveling to Duluth to serve as a reservist for the United States Coast Guard.

Aaron takes his job very seriously. The Firefighters are like a family and how they clearly communicate with each other and treat each other with respect is paramount.

Join us in celebrating Aaron Busch, Chanhassen Fire Department’s 2022 Firefighters of the Year, as the Hero of the Month for his bravery, generous spirit, and dedication to community.

If you know a paramedic or firefighter who goes above and beyond to serve his or her community – please nominate them for a Hero of the Month profile. We publish a new one on the first of every month and have a goal to profile firefighters from every community in Minnesota. Visit firefightersforhealing.org/heroofthemonth
